What can we do for you

• Plan a room, office or whole home layout, we are trained to see the big picture.  We use AutoCad, SketchUP and other software to visually represent the space to our clients
• Recommend everything from finishes (flooring, tile and paint), fixtures (plumbing, appliances and lighting) and colour pallets, to furniture, fabrics and accessories.

Accreditation

• Find a designer that has experience and who has had training at a recognized design school
• Interior Designers differ from interior decorators in the sense that interior decorators  furnish a space with fashionable and beautiful things” whereas “Interior Designers apply creative and technical solutions within a structure that are functional, attractive and beneficial to the occupants’ quality of life and culture” www.ncidq.org Interior Designers can decorate but Interior Decorators can not design.

How to Find an Interior Designer

• Word of mouth from friends or family whos homes you admire
• Local or national decor magazines
• Contact provincial interior design associations that will have a list of designers in your province (you can find links for lists via the Inteiror Designers of Canada website www.idcanada.org)

Questions to ask when hiring a Designer

• Look at their portfolio, find photos of their work on their website
• Ask to see drawing packages of work they have done
• Ask for references and ask to visit some of the homes they have done
• What is their approach? Do they charge hourly or fixed fee?
• Ask for an initial consult to determine if they are the right designer for you

Special Tips

• Hire a designer as soon as you start thinking about redesigning to take advantage of their expertise in space planning
• Take your house plans with you to the initial consult so they can get a sense of the space and can provide you with a more accurate quote
• Know what your needs are, and distinguish your needs from your wants
• Take magazine clippings with you to your first meeting and tell the designer what appeals to you in each image, is it the style, the furniture, paint color etc.

Wallpaper is transforming our spaces. People are using wallpaper throughout their homes and workplaces. We are seeing it in powder rooms, board rooms, dining rooms and entry’s. 

Until now people were limited to use the wallpapers only for the accent walls. However, the trend forecast for the year 2012 is completely different. You may expect the entire room to be dressed in wallpapers, and even ceilings.

We are happy to be writing our first ever blog entry!

We hope you can follow along with us; we’ll be revealing some new design trends for 2012, giving sneak peeks of our projects, and keeping you in the loop with the newest products hitting the market.

We have 2 offices, one in Canmore, Alberta and an office in Kelowna, BC.

First, we should introduce you to our team.

Carla Fisher: She is smart, savvy – and the leader of Sticks and Stones Design Group.

Working out of our Canmore Office we have:

Peter Manolakas: He manages the Alberta team, he is one of the three Architectural Technologists working in Canmore.

Craig Collalto: He is also an Architectural Technologist. He is happy with both mouse and pencil.

Chase Mullen: He is our newest addition to the Canmore team; he is the third Architectural Technologist. Chase started with LEGO® and never looked back.

Kara Gibson: Kara is one of three Interior Designers we have in our Canmore Office. She finds design inspiration everywhere.

Aleks Zablotni-Schantz: She is our newest interior designer, Aleks engages both sides of her brain and it shows.

Lisa Rosvold: She is on maternity leave and loves being a mom, Lisa was bitten early by the interior design bug.

In our new Kelowna office we have:

Brad Perrault: He is one of two Architectural Technologist we have in Kelowna. Brad’s
background, experiences and travels influence his design work.

Catherine G. Hogan: She is an Architectural Technologist, who is a LEED Accredited Professional. Catherine is passionate about creating unique spaces.

Maria Carreon: Maria is one of three interior designers in the Kelowna Office. She loves the natural environment and it shows in her work.

Shanna Martin: She is a new mom, and is currently on maternity leave! She loves exploring fresh ideas and new innovations.

Heather Cousins: She is the third interior designer in our Kelownaoffice. Heather takes
dilemmas and creates unique and beautiful spaces.

Sophia Kedziora: She is our Administrative Assistant. Sophia is a proactive
organizer with amazing attention to detail.
